DC councilman wants smoking exemption at children’s healthcare fundraiser

WASHINGTON – It might not seem like St. Patrick’s Day to some without a stogie. So, a Washington councilman is pushing for an exemption to the smoking ban on the holiday and a permanent exception to the nation’s capital smoke-free laws.

Councilman Jack Evans’ proposal would allow cigar lovers to light up at the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He also wants to allow smoking at the Fight for Children, a boxing fundraiser to raise money to provide healthcare to low income children in Washington, D.C.
