WASHINGTON, April 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — On March 31, President Barack Obama signed into the law the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act. This new law creates barriers to help prevent children from purchasing tobacco products over the Internet as well as eliminating illegal sales of tobacco products sold without sales taxes.

By requiring age and identity information for online cigarette sales, this law will help keep tobacco products away from young people. Since nearly 80 percent of all smokers start before their eighteenth birthdays, any effort to keep cigarettes out of young hands has a positive public health benefit.
