Oneida High School ‘Cancer Corner’ draws complaints – The Oneida Daily Dispatch News: Serving Oneida, NY and Madison County OneidaDispatch.com


ONEIDA — School officials and city police officers don’t have much control over what some residents have deemed enough of a nuisance to file complaints about it on See, Click, Fix — the Dispatch’s online community-watch program that allows people to draw attention to problem areas.

Most Oneida High School students and graduates are familiar with the well-known “Cancer Corner” where smoking teens indulge their nicotine habit just beyond the grasp of school officials. The popular spot is public property and current state and city ordinances do not prohibit students from smoking at the location, Oneida Police Chief David Meeker said.
